The aim of education is the knowledge not of facts but of values.
- William Ralph Inge
Sree Chaitanya, in his Siksastaka, had pointed out to the essence of education as the inculcation of a spirit of humility, tolerance, unconditional love and respect for the downtrodden. Inspired by this broad vision, Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya (erstwhile Sree Chaitanya College of Commerce) started its journey in August, 1965. It aimed at spreading the light of education amongst the marginalized and disadvantaged youth of North 24 Parganas. The present globalised scenario has thrown in new challenges which propelled the West Bengal State University to introduce the CBCS in its affiliated colleges from the academic session 2018-19. The new syllabus aims at fostering creativity and inquisitive spirit, assimilating knowledge with applied, skill based practices. I sincerely believe that the staff and students of our college will ascend to new peaks of academic excellence and research, guided not only by the needs of the syllabus but also by the inner urge for knowledge. I am certain that it is only through such inner probing and continual exploration that the noble ideals of the Siksastaka can be materialized and embodied in everyday life.

Sree Chaitanya Mahavidyalaya (formerly Sree Chaitanya College of Commerce) was established in 1965. Located in a semi-urban area, this co-educational college chiefly caters to the need of students hailing from economically weaker and underprivileged section of the society. The motivating spirit of the founders was the felt need of providing higher education to the people of this area.
